Everyone is afraid of Google penalties. Me too, I’m scared. Google algorithm penalty can keep your website doomed for life. Google penalties can be a costly problem especially when your site is removed from search engine, which can make your site loose search visibility and can negatively impact on your daily traffic and SEO at large. You wouldn’t like that right? So in this very article I’m going to detail out how to protect your site from 10 critical Google penalties, which can massively harm your blog.

What Is Google Penalty Anyway?

Google penalty is an action that Google takes against any website that goes against Google webmaster guidelines.
Google updates their algorithm to set new rules to detect sites going against their Webmaster guidelines.

Bad SEO practice such as black hat SEO techniques are the main reason why Google always update their algorithm to punish offenders.

What Is Google Algorithm?

Before we move ahead to what Google algorithm is. Let’s look at what algorithm itself means.

Algorithm is defined as a set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving. It is a set of instructions, typically to solve a class of problems or perform a computation, data processing and other tasks.

So what is Google algorithm? I guess the definition above gave you alittle clue to what Google algorithm is. Google algorithm is used by Google Search to rank web pages in their search engine results.

Google uses numerous other criteria that change periodically to deliver more relevant results as well as to prevent people from gaming the system.

With the amount of information available on the web, finding what you need would be nearly impossible without some help sorting through it. Google ranking system “PageRank” does just that.

Google PageRank (PR) algorithm sorts through hundreds of billions of webpages in our Search index to find the most relevant, useful results in a fraction of a second, and present them in a way that helps you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Google uses a whole series of algorithms. To give you the most useful information, Search algorithms look at many factors, including the words of your query, relevance and usability of pages, expertise of sources, your location and settings.

Google updates their algorithms once or twice every month. Each algorithms updates comes with a thousands of changes.

In my previous article on white hat SEO and black hat SEO techniques. I made mention of two different Google penalties which are manual action penalty and algorithm penalty. You can read about black hat SEO and white hat SEO techniques and Google penalties.

Is My Site Penalized?

Google search console remains the only tool through which you can check if your site is penalized or not. It acts are penalty checker. When your site is hit by manual action penalty you’ll be notified on your Google search console account.

How Do I Check If My Site Is Hit By Google Manual Action penalty?.

Go-to your Google search console account, under security and manual actions, click on manual actions. If you have penalties, they will be listed along with the pages that are affected. If you have no Google penalties, you will see a green checkmark.

How Can If Fix Google Manual Action Penalties.

To fix Google manual penalties. You have to find the issue. See which pages are affected. See the type and short description of the issue, and follow the “Learn more” link to see detailed information and steps to fix the issue. Once the issue is fixed.

Then submit a review request using Google URL’s inspection tool. Once Google confirms that the issue is fixed, they will notify you of the resolution via your email

How Long Does Google Reconsideration Review Takes?

After fixing the issues and submit a review request to Google It normally takes days, weeks at most two weeks for Google to consider your review and they will notify you via email when they receive your request. You will also be informed via email when the review is complete.

10 Google Critical Penalties To Avoid

If you have received a manual action alert on your Google search console account. Then it means Google has found one or two of this issues on your site:

1 Unnatural Links To Your Site.

Google punishes sites that buys links or participate in link schemes all for the aim to gain backlinks. Google algorithm is so sophisticated that they can detect any manipulative, unnatural and artificial links pointing to your site.

And once any is detected. Your site is definitely going to be punished. Ensure to avoid buying backlinks, participating in link schemes and other forms of bad SEO practices, known as black hat SEO techniques.

In an article I wrote on things I wish I knew before going into Blogging. I gave a detailed explanation on how to gain high quality backlinks for your site to boost your site ranking and domain authority.

2 Unnatural Links From Your Site.

Avoid inserting irrelevant, unnatural and artificial links all for the aim to manipulate Google search engine. In my previous article on things I wish I knew before going into blogging. I also vividly explained how proper link inserting techniques can build your site’s authority and boost your SEO. But if links provides no value or attempt to game search engines, your site will likely be penalized.

3 Keyword Stuffing.

This is the act of writting little or thin contents and loading them with Keywords just to game search engines and rank high on search results. Can I tell you something? This practice is against not just Google but all search engines webmaster guidelines. And known as a black hat SEO techniques.

Google detects pages on your site, which are stuffed with Keywords, with targeted Keywords repeatedly mentioned numerous times for the aim of ranking with the term. Google will surely penalize your site if found guilty.

4 Writing Thin or Little Contents With No Added Value.

Trust me, with the massive advancement of Google algorithm. They can easily detect pages on your blog with low quality contents, automatically generated or scraped contents. Google’s main mission is to provide relevant and quality information to searchers. And in a case you provide low quality or Scrapped content articles with no added value. Then you’re inviting Google’s wrath.

5 Cloaking.

Cloaking is a deceitful, dishonest and an mendacious act. Where by a site shows one thing to visitors and another to search engines.

Example: A user searches form “10 richest celebrities” and when he clicks on the search results, he sees “Celebrities naked pictures”.

Google is strictly against this act and severely punishes offenders.

6 Sneaky Redirects.

On a normal circumstances, redirection are used to redirect users to another page if the resources has been moved or if the site has been moved to another domain.

But in a case whereby you insert links in your articles which redirects visitors to irrelevant pages. Then you’re incurring Google’s deadly wrath. Avoid such acts to avoid Google algorithm penalty.

7 Spam

Spamming blog comment sections and forums with your posts and links involved in an attempt to gain backlinks and traffics will land your site penalized by Google.

Google algorithmic rules is truculently against spam and will penalize any site found guilty.

8 AMP Content Mismatch

Google algorithm updates detects AMP pages that don’t match the original content. AMP pages in general should follow standard search guidelines.

According to AMP Google search guidelines. Visitors should be able to experience the same content and complete the same or similar actions on AMP pages as the original page.

9 Hidden Link.

This is a another deceitful practice very similar to cloaking, whereby using white text on a white background, hiding text behind an image, setting the font size to zero, or using CSS to position text off screen. Avoid these practices. Google is watching.

10 Structured Data Issue

Google sees structured data, or schema markup, that is misleading or manipulative.
The structured data may have content that is irrelevant or invisible to users which goes against  Google’s structured data guidelines

Below are a few specific examples of structured data issues. Visit Google’s support page for the full list and descriptions.

  • Content on the page is different from structured data
  • Structured data was found on hidden content
  • Specific data types violate Google guidelines; they are incorrect or misleading.

In Conclusion

Google’s mission is to satisfy their users by presenting suitable results to searchers. Google won’t tolerate any form of practice going against their guidelines. And will certainly get any site penalized if detected going against their algorithmic rules. Only engage in White SEO techniques Use bannedcheck  or Webceo tool to check if your site is blacklisted by Google.

I simply search for a keyword on Google, related to my niche.
When the keywords contents comes up, I simply scroll down to “PEOPLE ALSO ASK” or “RELATED SEARCHES”. There I’ll get to see questions people also asks or searches on Google related to my niche

Thousands of users ask questions regarding these keywords and when you write on them (applying proper SEO techniques) you’re not only doing your users a favour by answering their most burning questions but also doing yourself a great favour by driving huge traffic into your blog which in turn will generate more revenue and sales.

22 Tips And Techniques To Boost Amazon Affiliate Earnings

22 Tips And Techniques To Boost Amazon Affiliate Earnings 33

I joined the Amazon affiliate family (also known as Amazon associates) on January 14, 2020. Ofcourse I’m new to the game, but to be honest, I started my research on Amazon affiliate marketing since September 2019. I read so many blog posts, and watched several YouTube videos on Amazon affiliate marketing and also how to boost Amazon affiliate earnings.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

To be honest, I’ve been hearing about Amazon affiliate marketing, but I never had so much interest in it. Not until I had some issues with my AdSense, that was when I started seeking for other monetizing alternative, all thanks to a good friend of mine, who advised i should venture into Affiliate marketing, (Amazon associates) to be precise.

I thought to myself, why don’t I give it a try, I mean, no harm in trial right? Then I gave my shot. I joined the Amazon associates program, and applied the techniques which I’ve learnt from my research, from Amazon affiliate gurus and professionals, which I’m going to state in this article.

While doing my research on Amazon affiliate and how to boost Amazon affiliate earning, I noticed that 50% Amazon Affiliate marketers failed on their first attempt, (due to some mistakes and errors) and i want to be excluded. I never wanted to fail. I mean, Who wants to fail?

This prompted me to take my time with my research and avoid rushing. And today, i can gladly say, I’m gradually reaping the fruit of my labour, although, I’m not currently at the level i want to be, but I’m getting there.

So, if you’re an Amazon associates member wanting to boost your earnings or you’re struggling to make sales, then your solution is here. In this very article, I’m going to detail out my techniques and tips to help you boost your Amazon Affiliate earnings and cash out, just like other Affiliate marketers does.🙂.

1. Create good and Quality Content.

What distinguishes a blog from others? “Quality Content“.
I know you must have came across a saying which says “Content is king” definitely that’s right.
When you write a good content regarding a product which you want to promote, this will help boost amazon affiliate earnings.

Boost Amazon Affiliate earnings

While writing your content ensure it’s attention-grabbing and in-depth, with well detailed explanation, information and description about the products you want to promote. This will give your readers the satisfaction they deserve which will prompt them to make a purchase through your link. And when that happens, you earn your commission.

2. Ensure Proper SEO Techniques Are Utilized.

Don’t forget SEO Techniques.
While writting your contents ensure you apply proper SEO techniques, such as ensuring your keyword (which you want to rank for) are present in your URL, first paragraph of your content, in your images, in description box and are inserted and flows naturally in your content.

Boost Amazon Affiliate earnings

This will encourage your article ranking and visibility to search engines. Remember more traffic, more sales. When your article is exposed, the more you target potential buyers. Avoid Blackhat SEO techniques to avoid getting your site blacklisted by search engines

3. Create Ultimate Customer Buyers Guide.

Boost Amazon Affiliate earnings

Your readers wants to be properly guided on what to buy and how to buy. They see you as a professional, which makes them look upto you for guidance and instructions. Therefore creating a customer guide on products you promote will help keep your readers well informed on what to look out for, before purchasing a product, and also help them take possible precautions before purchasing an item.

4. Create Product Comparison Tables.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Creating product comparison tables helps your readers know which product is right or suitable for them. It also helps them make the right decision regarding to their need and wants. You can simply build a product comparison table by using WordPress plugin called “TablePress“.

This plugin lets you create the comparison tables on a page of your site within a few minutes.

5. Create Call To Action Button.

65% of affiliate marketers fails to practice this technique. Remember, your readers likes to be told what to do. Applying “Call to action” technique will definitely help boost amazon affiliate earnings.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

At the end of your post, take the time to let the readers know they can get more in-depth customer reviews, description find out the pricing, or make their purchase by clicking on the link placed at the end of your content.

6. Instead Of anchor Links, Use Buttons.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Instead of using anchor text links to drive your readers to Amazon site to make a purchase, use buttons instead. This is because buttons are more eye-catching and action prompting to click. This will help boost your earnings. You can use plugins like Forget about short code buttons or MaxButtons to create beautiful buttons.

By using buttons, I mean.

  • Check Amazon For Best Price
  • Buy Now On Amazon
  • Click Here To Buy On Amazon
  • Shop Now On Amazon

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Personally i use, “Check Amazon For Best Price“. And to be honest with you it converts more, because it makes my readers clicks through my button links to check the price of the product and possibly make a purchase. But you can use what ever works fine for your audience.

7. Don’t Forget The “Best”, “Top” & “Review” Keyword.

Potential Buyers normally search using the keyword “Best”, “Top” or “Review”.
Example, Best phones with 6gig memory space. Top 5 Sweat jackets, or Review on iPhone 11 pro. This is called “buyers intent”.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

These are keywords that serious buyers who already have their wallet out searches on google. Now you want to target those users who have their wallet out, and are eagerly waiting for you to tell them what to purchase. And easy way to do this is, target keyword with “Best,” “Top” & “Reviews”. Just like the examples given above.

8. Create A Detailed & Informative Tutorial Content.

Apart from creating “best”, “Top” and product reviews content. Creating a well detailed and informative tutorial content will also help boost your Amazon affiliate earnings. By this i mean, creating tutorial contents with detailed guide which will be useful to your audience, while you include products which they will use and benefit from in your content.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Example:How to properly shave off your beard“. You know fully well that tools and products such as razor shavers, shaving brush, shaving cream, shaving oil, facial cleanser, and after shave, will be needed while shaving a beard, what you should do is add links to these products while writting your content, which will direct your readers to Amazon site to make a purchase.

This will create a convenient shopping experience for your readers and they’ll be happy to make a purchase because you’ve satisfied their taste of curiosity by giving an insight with their demands.
This will significantly boost sales and increase your earnings. You can as well break down the tutorial guide with pictures which will make the content more explanatory and understandable.
I personally use this technique and believe me when I say it converts well.

10. Use Product Images.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

While writing on a product, ensure to use product images. Don’t just type the product name without adding images. Adding product image to your contents will entice your readers and create good users experience. Don’t forget to insert your affiliate links in product images too because users sometimes clicks on product image on your site.

11. Write A “Best seller List”

Another way to boost amazon affiliate earning is by writing on “best seller” products. Ofcourse everyone wants nothing but the best, and when Amazon has categorized some products as best sellers it means the product sells fast because of its quality.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

To tap into this juice, and make some sales, all you have to do is find best selling products in your niche, by going to your Amazon affiliate dashboard and search for “best selling products“. Normally best selling products has high reviews and star ratings by customers and also have a badge indicating as “Best seller”

Write on these products and promote them, Most times, a small 100-200 word blurb on each is more than enough to introduce your readers to the product, and summarize the benefits.

12. Promote A Mix Of “Cheap Products” & “High Ticket Products”.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

When promoting products on your blog, don’t only go for high ticket products (expensive products), not everyone can afford to purchase it. Make a mix of high ticket products and cheap products, this will give those with low budget a choice to make.

Lower priced items tends to sell alot more and the more you keep making sales the more you earn, although the commission rate maybe little. But its definitely better than nothing. Think about it, if you’re at a 6% commission level, and you sell a $20 product. You’re going to get paid $1.20. Not bad, if you can sell hundreds of that product daily.

On the other hand, its also a good approach to promote high ticket product, considering the fact if you should make a sale, you’ll earn a high commission.

Now think about a scenario where you’re selling a $1,000 product at the same 6% commission level. You’re going to make $60 commission, and you only need to pull that off once, or twice a day, to hit a substantial income from your affiliate site.

Therefore, If there are highly priced products available in your niche, get to writing about them. I even suggest you get to purchase the product as to enable you write an in-depth review about it.

To sum it up, while promoting products on your site, ensure its mixed with high and low priced products. This will enable those with either low or high budget, make a purchase through your links.

13. Build Your Email List.

As a serious affiliate marketer, building an email list should be your major priority. Remember your site is just like your online business, you wouldn’t want to loose potential customers right? Then why not keep them and make them come back for more by making them subscribe to your mailing list?.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Email marketing has been the No 1 strategic plan for successful affiliate marketers. They have their own loyal customers at their possession who has already subscribed to their mailing list and will definitely come back for more each time they receive their mails.

Having an email list is a true asset for your business. You have complete control of your email list.

  • It isn’t affected by algorithm changes.
  • It isn’t affected by policy changes.
  • It’s yours and it’s the ultimate asset.

Growing an email list should be a priority for EVERY business.

If you don’t have a newsletter set up on your blog, then you’re leaving huge money on the table.
So, therefore, set up an email list today. You can use the most simple and popularly known MailChimp to create your newsletter.

14. Promote Products on Holidays, Promos, and “Large Shopping Periods”

There are some certain times of the year where there is likely going to be more sales and shopping than normal. Mostly festival periods, and black friday. And that’s a great opportunity to promote products for your audeinces and make more sales.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Let’s take black Friday as an example, normally on this period products prices are slashed than the usual (50% off). Leaving an eye popping price which definitely will attract thousands of online shoppers. This will be a good opportunity and an advantage to you as an Amazon associates member to promote products related to their niche and make more sales than usual.

15. Create A Post Guide On “How To Use A Product”.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

60% of affiliate marketers review products without actually using them, or having then in their possession. Why don’t you step a bit further and get the product so as to create an in-depth review regarding the product. By teaching your readers how to correctly use the product, and other detailed information they need to know.

You can do this by:

  • Purchase the product, then review it, later offering it as a giveaway to your readers.
  • Reach out to a seller on Amazon, and work out a deal in exchange for free products.
  • Ask a seller on Amazon for in-depth photos in exchange for sending traffic their way.
  • Go to your local department store and take in-person photos of the product.
  • Or, ask one of your friends or family members if they own it.

By doing this, it will make you stand out differently, build more connection and trustworthiness with your reader. And not making you look “spammy” or a hungry blogger that’s just trying to make a quick cash.

16. Tap Into Other Website’s Readers.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Guest posting on other people’s websites gives your Associates affiliate sites two distinct advantages.

  1. First, you gain authoritative links that help you rank better in the search engines.
  2. Second, you tap into an existing audience who are already interested in purchasing the types of products that you’re promoting.

In return these two makes you make more conversation and boost amazon affiliate earnings.

All you have to do is send out your first email.

To get started, search Google for “niche blog”, where you replace “niche” with your keywords, or your niche topic. Then gather a list of 100-200 blogs.

Once you have a list built, start going through each site until you find either a contact form, an email address that you can mail to, or a social media profile that the owner of the blog seems to be active on. Make an outreach by sending a mail stating your interest for guest posting.

17. Silo Your Contents And Create Sales Funnel.

Silo is a way of creating a sales channel or funnel to boost Amazon affiliate earnings.

You can setup what is known as a “funnel” and organize your content in a way that visitors are “funneled” down into the pages of your site that make you the most money.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

You can simply do this by monitoring, and analyzing your existing traffic to know which post makes the highest sales. Then you channel posts with low sales to posts with high traffic and high sales. This can easily be done by inserting a link inside of the low earning posts, letting readers know that they can find more information about products that may fill their need by clicking through to other posts on your site.
Note: Ensure you’re linking to related posts. This is SEO friendly and will create more good users experience

18. Give Choices. (But Don’t Give Too Many Choices.

It’s ok to provide your audience with numerous product choice which suits their needs, but sometimes you don’t have to overdo it. From my own experience i noticed that writing on a single product or about 2-3 products coverts more, than stuffing multiple products in your content.

Why is this?

Providing multiple choices (example 7-10 products) will put your readers in a state of confusion on which product to choose from, which they may end up not purchasing any product at all.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

But above all, writing on a single product converts more sales, or try to limit your product choices to 2-5, you can as well distinguish them with their pros and cons. This will enable your readers know the product which exactly suits their needs.

19. Remove Other Ads Monetizing Method.

If your site is loaded with different forms of monetizing ads, then you’re definitely loosing money. Infact to be honest with you, a real affiliate marketer does his possible best to get his visitors full attention within his blog, communicating with them through his content and email list and at the end convince them to buy their promoted products to earn them their commission.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Including other forms of monetization to your site will be a distraction to your readers and may reduce the total number of clicks to your marchant site. In this case the automated ads you have on your site such as AdSense, mediavine, propeller etc is actually costing you money, because the cheap clicks you’re generating could be sent over to Amazon, generating you a substantially higher commission.

20. Tap From Social Media Traffic To Boost Sales.

Leverage social media to get your Affiliate posts exposed to large audeinces and boost your sales. Social Media platform such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc are the best means of promotion.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Utilizing this strategy requires a little creativity on your part, because, most times, you aren’t going to be able to find a group or a page that’s strictly related to the types of products you’re promoting on Amazon, but by running Advertisement you’ll definitely cover more people.

Facebook and Twitter will help you reach thousands of people through Advertising which is definitely a good approach to increasing your Affiliate earnings. I personally promote my Affiliate posts using Facebook and the conversion rate is awesome. Here’s how to run a Facebook ads.

21. Use LongTail Keywords.

You should know that you’re not the first person to start up whatever Amazon Affiliate niche you’re on now. There are already top blogs with higher authority who are already in the game. These top blogs mostly uses short head keywords to rank their article. As a blogger who is new to the game, using same short head keyword is almost impossible to outrank them. This can also get your contents lost in search engine.

Example: Instead of going for short head keywords like “10 Best life jackets“, go for Longtail keywords like “10 Best life jackets under $50” or “10 Best life jackets for safe swimming

So, it’s a good approach to use Longtail keyword, this will help you rank higher and get your articles visible to users in search engines.

22. Be Honest & Transparent To Your Readers.

If you’re looking to build a solid trust and reputability with your readers then you have to be 100% honest and transparent.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

People don’t like to be decieved. They want to be told the truth, and your readers looks up to you for that. To build this trust with your readers then you have to be free of deceit and be sincere with them.

Disclose your Affiliate identity. Let them know that you’re an affiliate marketer and you will earn a small commission if they make a purchase through your Affiliate links.

In the case of writing about a product, you should open up and tell them everything they need to know about the product, including its Pros and Cons (advantage and disadvantage).

No product is perfect, there must be a downside of a product. By revealing this to your readers, you’re not only building a solid trust and reputability for your brand but also building a long term relationship with your readers which makes your brand or business stand out amongst others.

Wrapping It Up.

I have put all these techniques meantioned above into practice and believe me when i say I’m already seeing a positive result.

Before joining Amazon associates, i thought I’ll hardly make a sale. But the first month (January) I joined Amazon affiliates, I made 7 sales. (Without Advertising). This is nearly impossible because you have to build trust and reliance with your readers. But I was able to make my first 7 sales using the above meantioned techniques.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Sincerely speaking I was happy and at the same time surprised, because I was able to make more than 3 sales before 6 months (which is a must do before being qualified to become a full Amazon associates member).

On February I made 19 sales. I kept pushing. I know its a gradual process, no short cut to success.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

On March 19, 2020, I made 45 sales. That’s huge for a newbie like me😁. But definitely I know this is just the starting point. With hardwork and consistency, I’ll definitely get there.

Boost amazon affiliate earnings

Now, It’s Your Turn.

Now. It’s time to get to work. Use these above meantioned techniques to your advantage to boost your Amazon Affiliate earnings and become a successful Affiliate marketer.

If you’re struggling for search traffic, email subscribers, and sales, then there is a probability your blog’s bounce rate is high.

To paint a clear picture. Have you ever walked into a store before and just walked away? You just bounced. The reason you walked away could be maybe the store doesn’t have what you wanted or you don’t like the looks of the store.

Whatever the reason is, you just took a look and left, that’s all that matters. This is exactly what happens when people visit your blog. When a visitor visits your blog and could not get what he or she wants or isn’t satisfied with the content, he/she leaves. This could be very bad for your blog, which could result to low traffics, sales, and earning rate.

As a blogger you should really watch your site’s bounce rate to ensure it’s low at all times. To achieve a low bounce rate requires some applied techniques, which I’m going to detail out in this article.

What Is Bounce Rate?

Bounce rate refers to the percentage of your total website visitors who leave the site after seeing just one page. To break down the definition to a layman understand. Bounce Rate is when a visitor visits your blog and leaves without visiting any other page on the same domain. (Site).

Your bounce rate is the percentage of all users who enter and exit on the same page, without any clicks to other pages on your site.

Keeping your visitors staying longer in your site is very essential for a healthy SEO.
See your blog as a house. I bet you wouldn’t want a scenario whereby your site visitors walks through the front door and exit from the back door. You’ll like to show them around and give them a tour.

That’s exactly what you should do to your site visitors if you really want to reduce your blog bounce rate.

Why Is My Blog Bounce Rate High?

There are alot of factors that can cause high bounce rates and these factors are:

  • Slow page load times
  • Your content doesn’t engage the reader enough. (Poor grammar and terrible mistakes)
  • Bombarding visitors with alternative offers and intrusive advertisements.
  • Visitors seeing something unrelated to what they came for.
  • Bad Link from Another Website
  • Website not mobile friendly.
  • Annoying Popups

How Do I Calculated My blog’s Bounce Rate?

In Google analytics the audience Overview report tells you your bounce rate. The higher the bounce rate, the more people leave your site without visiting more than one page.

Google Analytics calculates bounce rate with a simple equation: Divide the number of sessions involving just one page by the total number of sessions, then multiply by 100.

If 10,000 people visit your website and about 2,000 of them only visit one page, your bounce rate is 20 percent. That’s 2,000 divided by 10,000, multiplied by 100.

How Do I Know My Bounce Rate Is High?

A bounce rate in the range of 26 to 40 percent is excellent. 41 to 55 percent is roughly average. 56 to 70 percent is higher than average, but may not be a cause for alarm depending on the website. Anything over 70 percent is disappointing.

How To Reduce Your Blog Bounce Rate

To reduce your blog bounce rate, you need to apply these technical and very effective approach. Dont worry, these approaches are easy and simple to apply, all you need is to understand the concept and apply the steps.

1. Speed Up Your Page Load Time.

One of the reason why you have a high bounce rate is slow page load time. When your site takes time to load visitors becomes pissed off and leaves your site for faster one. This becomes very bad for your and SEO in general.

In building a healthy SEO, one of the main techniques to apply is to ensure you speed up your site load time. When your site loads fast visitors becomes happy to tour around your website. Over the years Google has consistently named speed rate as a significant ranking factor.

Google wants to rank content that displays quickly for people who use smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.

If you’re struggling with how to reduce your blog bounce rate, then speed up your website. Here are a few methods:

  • Reduce image sizes
  • Eliminate unnecessary scripts
  • Deactivate plugins you don’t use

You can as well connect your site to Cloudflare to speed up your site load time and to protect your site with hardened security features.

2. Make Your Articles Readable (Don’t bore Your Readers).

If your articles or contents doesn’t engage your readers then consider it as one of the reasons you’re having a high bounce rate. To reduce your blog bounce rate you have to ensure your articles are 100% readable.

Improve your content readability. User experience begins when your content is readable and legible. Large chunk of texts without paragraphs scares visitors away.

There are lots of blogs out there with great content and lousy formatting. This results in a higher bounce and faster exit rate.

While writting your article, break it down to smaller pieces, thereby creating more paragraphs just the way I did.
This will enhance your content readability and encourage your readers to even read more.

Example: First, the headline – big and bold. Then, I use subheadings, paragraphs and bullet points to make the article easier to read.

Poor grammatical errors also scares your readers away, making them think your content does not worth reading. Try to improve in your writing skill, also ensure to audit your article/content, check for errors before publishing them.

3. Start Internal Link Building.

If you really want to make your blog visitors spend more time in your blog. Thereby increasing your blog sessions, then consider inserting internal related links in the blog content.

In a article I wrote on 5 things I wish I knew before going into blogging. I explained how internal linking can increase your traffic and improve your SEO in general.

Inserting your related links in your articles just the way I did above will encourage your blog visitors to visit more pages in your site, thereby touring around while they enjoy your great articles.

I call this method, The “Trapping Technique”. You wouldn’t want your blog visitors to read a page in your site and exit. No, no, no, that’s very bad and these can automatically increase your bounce rate.

Engage your blog readers by linking your previous related articles to the current onces. This will make them visit more pages in your site, thereby increasing your page views, sessions and most importantly reducing your blog bounce rate.

4. Avoid Annoying Popups

How would you feel when you visit a blog and all of a sudden boom!! an annoying pop up covers your screen thereby disrupting you reading. Quite annoying right?. That’s exactly how your blog visitors feels when they get interrupted by annoying pop ups in your site.

Annoying pop ups in your site could be causing your blog more harm than good. And you should really try to avoid it, because this will scare your blog visitors away thereby increasing your blog bounce rate.

To reduce your blog bounce rate, one of the factor to consider is to ensure you site do not have annoying pop ups. I myself hates pop ups, if i should visit a site and pop ups disrupts my reading, then I’ll exit the site without any hesitation.

On the other hand, popups work. There’s no denying the fact that they can grow your email list quickly.

If that’s the way you want to go, fine. But, if you want to build a long-term site that generates lots of organic visitors, consider limiting or totally avoiding popups.  Or, at a minimum, make them as unobtrusive and un-annoying as possible.

5. Incorporate Story Telling in Your Articles

Story telling has proven to be one of the most effective technique to reduce bounce rate.

Incorporating stories in your articles helps in engaging your readers and encourages then to continue reading your content. Infact incorporating stories makes your article more interesting to read. This will go along way to reduce to your blog bounce rate.

Incorporating story telling techniques in your contents helps you build more trust, credibility and loyalty amongst your blog readers. Storytelling helps your content appeal to users in a dynamic, emotional way. As a result, they’ll begin to trust you more.

For example, if you believe in helping customers find the right content online in your industry, then don’t shrink away from sharing your story of failure. Remember that the story of failure is often the story that your target audience most wants to hear.

In storytelling, try to put yourself in their shoes, see things from there own perspective. And whatever you do, don’t lie to them. Even with the best of intentions. It’ll hurt both your credibility and your readers.

6. Keep Updating Your Blog With Fresh Content.

Content is King and will always be. Updating your blog regularly with fresh and the right content will reduce your blog bounce rate.

Businesses that update their blogs with fresh content regularly will generate more leads than those who don’t. You have to ensure your content solves the problem of your readers. I have always advised don’t write your content for search engines, write your contents to satisfy your readers.

When your blog visitors are satisfied with your content or when your article solves their problem, they’ll come back for more, and regularly updating your blog with the right and fresh contents will dramatically reduce your bounce rate.

By consistently adding fresh content, you’re gradually building momentum and establishing trust. You can generate more revenue from repeat visitors because you’ve established a level of trust with them.

7. Ensure Your Site Is Mobile Friendly.

Google added mobile responsiveness as a ranking factor, which means if your blog isn’t mobile responsive or isn’t mobile friendly then this could be the reason why you’re having a high bounce rate, and also be the reason why you’re struggling with low traffics.

We are living in a mobile age. About 95% of your blog visitors visits your blog with their mobile devices, this should be the core reason why you should ensure your blog is 100% mobile friendly and responsive.

What do I mean by a mobile friendly blog?

A mobile friendly blog or website is when your regular website shrinks down to be small enough to display on a mobile device. It looks like a tiny version of your website. When your blog perfectly fits into mobile version, then it becomes mobile friendly or responsive.

It’s time to take your brand to mobile because your customers have their mobile devices with them everywhere, you have to optimize your blog for them.

In fact, mobile-friendliness is a ranking factor. This means that if your site is not mobile-friendly, no matter how useful your content may be, it won’t rank well in Google results pages.

To test if your site is mobile responsive or not, simply follow these steps:

Step1: Go to Google’s mobile-friendly test tool. Enter your site URL (e.g., Click the “ANALYZE” button:

Wait for the page to process:

Step 2: Check your result. If your site is mobile-friendly, you’ll see a page like this:

Otherwise, you’ll see a result page similar to this:

If you’re site isn’t mobile responsive, there are some possible ways to fix it.

If you’re a WordPress theme user, it’s very easy to make your site responsive. All you’ve got to do is install the JetPack plugin and activate the mobile theme. You can also use the WPTouch.

If you’re not using a WordPress theme and you’re not a technical person, you may need to get a professional to help you out.

8. Don’t Try To Trick Users With Fake Contents.

No one wants to feel duped. If you try to trick your blog visitors with fake contents, then you’re ruining your reputation and single handedly destroying the trust they have for you. This alone can ruin your traffic and bite your SEO where it hurts.

When a reader visits your blog, with the intention to read what the title is all about, but get to discover that the content is a direct opposite, then he/she leaves or exists your blog. This alone can increase your bounce rate, and ruin your site’s reputability and relationship with your readers.

9. Add images and Videos To Engage Your Visitors.

Engaging your readers with videos and mind blowing pictures will also go a long way to reduce your blog bounce rate.

Creating videos and beautiful pictures for your contents entices your users and creates more user experience. Like they always say, a picture paints a thousand words.

Animated GIFs and other visual content can help, as well. People enjoy looking at visual content, especially when they’re in the middle of reading a long article.

10. Open External Links In A New Tab.

If you’ve tried the above techniques and you’re still seeing a high bounce rate in your stats, then it could be your external links.

Most sites use external links in their content. They link to other resources outside their domain (for more referencing) for instance, when citing facts in an article.

If you’re seeing a high bounce rate on your blog posts, consider adding HTML tags to your external links so they open in a new tab. Simply add target=”_blank” to the link. The entire link might look like this:

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>Zigihow</a>

If you’re using Rank math SEO Plugin, you can simply check the little box when inserting links to enable external links open in new tab as indicated in the picture below

When a user clicks on an external link, another browser tab will automatically open.

Why does this help? Because it leaves your website open in a separate browser tab. The reader can return to it after checking out the external link.

In Conclusion.

Like i have said, as a professional blogger you should watch your bounce rate. A high bounce rate is a signal that something is really wrong somewhere with your blog.

Applying the above techniques will go along way to reduce your blog bounce rate just like mine.

Implement these strategies to make your content stickier and more appealing. Remember: the more time your visitors spend on your website, the more they’ll be to make a purchase or convert on an offer and also the more traffics and sessions you’ll acquire, which in general will yield a healthy SEO.
